In this 5 day workshop, students will learn the step by step process of how to render a realistic portrait using charcoal and chalk on toned paper. Xavi will be working along side the students, demonstrating each day of the process and providing one to one instruction. Working from life, students will first learn how to synthesise the head into its constructive planes as it pertains to the underlying anatomy of the skull and its proportions. Interpreting the fall of light into an appropriate value range will also be studied, so as to render form correctly and create the illusion of 3 dimensionality.
Xavier has a broad background in art from various Spanish cities such as the Fine Arts Faculties in Barcelona and Seville. He then continued his studies in drawing, painting, and sculpture in Italy at the Florence Academy of Art. He completed his training with several workshops by artists like Jason Seiler, Max Ginsburg, Sean Cheetham, and Robert Liberace. He also participated in various collective exhibitions in England and Italy. He was the founder of the Barcelona Atelier of Realist Art, also collaborating with the Barcelona Academy of Art and is now an instructor for Domestika's online courses in Drawing.
